A new tap dance adventure for all levels.

Learn an entire piece of intricate tap dance choreography, start to finish, set to Yann Tiersen's beautiful music of the same title.

Explore a new realm...

"I created the piece as an evolution; an exploration of what is possible in the realm of tap dance, from the simplest, most gentle movements through to the most rhythmically complex and physically exhaustive."

Le Jour d'avant is a rare piece of tap dance choreography that effectively encompasses the entire scope of tap dance level and ability.

It is fun, frustrating, and highly rewarding, and will keep tap dancers of all levels busy with tasty learning material for quite some time.

Taught by the choreographer, Bill Simpson.

The course is currently OPEN for registrations.
For a limited time.

Frequently Asked Questions

Crafted specially for adult beginners, brand new to Tap Dance. We’ve set out to create the most enjoyable, convenient, clear, concise, relevant and effective introduction to the art of Tap Dance possible.

Here’s an overview of what you’ll learn in the course:

SETTING UP

  • How to set up your Tap space.
  • How to Tap comfortably and safely without annoying neighbors or ruining floors.

THE KEY PRINCIPLES OF TAP DANCE

  • How movement and music merge to create magic.
  • The crucial ‘make or break’ elements of Tap Dance.

THE ‘BUILDING BLOCKS’

  • The fundamental technique to pave the way for eternal Tap happiness.
  • The most commonly used beats and steps that you’ll see in Tap class (including steps done traveling and on the spot).
  • The common, easily avoidable mistakes that could trip you up.

BECOMING A BETTER, HAPPIER TAP DANCER

  • Super simple secrets for lightning-fast Tap Dance.
  • How to see results quicker.
  • Time saving hints & tips and practice recommendations.

A LITTLE ROOM TO MOVE AROUND

We recommend a minimum of 1m x 1m (3ft x 3ft) to move around. For traveling steps, a corridor or hallway is perfect.

A WOODEN FLOOR IS BEST (…but don’t worry if you don’t have one)

A piece of plywood will do the job, or even a plastic office floor protector is a great option that dulls the sound while still being audible to the dancer. We cover home flooring options early-on in the course.

WHAT TO WEAR:

Comfortable clothing that you can move around in.

MOST IMPORTANTLY:

A willingness and determination to practice and improve over time. It doesn’t work if you don’t really want to learn. And it definitely doesn’t work if you put unrealistic expectations on yourself.

OTHER HELPFUL ITEMS TO HAVE CLOSE BY:

  • Chair (to use as a bar support)
  • Water
  • Mirror (the bigger, the better)
  • Metronome (or Metronome app for smart phone)
  • Notebook

No. Not to start with. If you’ve got them, great, but there’s no harm in holding off, and then making the investment once you’ve given it a try. In the meantime, we recommend to wear the shoes with the hardest sole possible.

We absolutely recommend joining an in-person Tap class when you can! But there are a few significant benefits to the Just TAP video course series, and things that make it very special with our students:

1.
Build confidence from home.

Even if you’re lucky enough to have a local adult Tap class at the appropriate level, jumping in can be intimidating (I’ve been there). Use the Just TAP series as a springboard; a secret weapon that will have your classmates wondering how you’re such a natural.

2. The pros of video learning.

Pause. Rewind. Slow down. Zoom in. Take the time you need without feeling rushed or pressured. Come back to the videos whenever you need a helping hand (or foot).

3.
Unparalleled attention to detail.

I don’t gloss over anything, and have structured and explained the content in a way that makes sense. Just because someone can Tap Dance well does not necessarily make them a good teacher.

4. Clarity and Guidance.

I’ve made the course easy to understand and follow. You never have a chance to get lost, and never have a chance to get bored. I’m with you every step of the way, guiding you from one step to the next and encouraging you along the way. I have a soothing voice (…or so I’ve been told).

5. Expertise.

I’ve lived and breathed tap for over 2 decades, and have seen this technique work thousands of times, with people all over the world. Many Tap teachers (and a few Tap rock-stars) have reached out to me over the years sharing their appreciation for the courses.

6. High value. Low cost.

Even if you are lucky enough to have a dance studio with an adult absolute beginner class in your area, most group classes are at least $20 per class (you’ll need at least 4-6 classes to cover the material in this course, if not more), with private classes anywhere from $75 to $100+ per hour.

7. No fluff.

From the start, I wanted to condense as much value and useful content as I could into this course, with zero ‘fluff’. I don’t want to waste your time (or mine), so rather than give you 30 videos to suffer through, I’ve given you 3 invaluable instructional videos (+ some nifty bonuses, including warm-ups and combinations) that cover everything you need to start your Tap journey with confidence.

8. Proven results.

It works. 4500 students and counting.

Currently, we’re not able to offer downloads of the course content.

But good news, the alternative is better.

We’ve significantly leveled-up our video viewing platform, with the in-built ability to speed-up, slow-down, change video quality, and skip easily to different chapter points across each video. You’ll also be able to easily keep track as to what lessons have been completed, and your overall progress throughout the course.

As mentioned, in recent times we’ve significantly leveled-up our video viewing platform, with the in-built ability to speed-up, slow-down, change video quality, and skip easily to different chapter points across each video. You’ll also be able to easily keep track as to what lessons have been completed, and your overall progress throughout the course. It’s intuitive and easy to navigate. We love it (and so do our students).

The course has been created with adults (of any age) in mind, but is 100% appropriate for children.

If you’d like to take your next steps with us, Course 2 in the Just TAP series, ‘How to Tap Dance for Advanced Beginners’ picks up right where we leave off, and is the perfect next step on the journey. Course 3, ‘Intermediate to Advanced’ follows on from Course 2.

We also recommend checking out our ‘All Access Pass’ which includes the above courses and much more (including a global community of Tap dancers to support and help keep you accountable).

Words About Bill

"Bill Simpson is an excellent tap mentor - having taken many classes with Bill, I highly recommend everyone to try them out. Not only does he share his amazing footwork, he brings the whole body experience to a class to ensure you leave as a better dancer internally, externally and from head to toe. From the care of his students to his diverse range of musicality and experience, he brings a wealth of knowledge to any class experience."

- Ella Lehaf, Producer of Australian Tap Dance Festival

HeelDividerShorterBlack

"As a tap dancer of 30 years I have come across a huge range of artists in my time. Upon meeting Bill Simpson I was blown away by his uniqueness. His class environment is so warm and welcoming to any age or ability of Tap. One thing I particularly love about his classes is that he helps you forget what is going on in your outside world. To be able to hold the attention of the class for that long requires a very special skill, which Bill is gifted with. Along with possessing an amazing style, his creativity, musicality and choreographic range is next to none."

- Shannon Zammit, Student

HeelDividerShorterBlack

"Besides being an award-winning tap dancer, theatrical tour de force, and master technician (which he is), Bill Simpson is a generous educator and clear communicator, bringing dynamic freshness to classic styles with respect to the roots of the craft. All while nurturing what I consider to be the most important ingredient - the joy of dance."

- Eden Read, Tap Dance Educator

We recognize the many nations and cultures that shape and contribute to the art of tap dance, but acknowledge tap as an African-American art-form at its roots, which directly influenced the dancers of the ‘golden era’ of Hollywood, in-turn popularizing Tap across the world.

We also acknowledge the First Nations Peoples of Australia - the traditional owners of the land on which we join you from - and pay respects to their elders, past and present.
