...or doesn't need to be.
Each day all over the world, people are embracing their own journey in tap dance. But quickly they learn that without the necessary tools and community support, their initial excitement and determination dwindles, and in many cases, burns out.
No wonder so many people give up tap dance far short of discovering the magic of this incredible, soul-nourishing art form.
Our private online community; a safe, welcoming space for people of all ages, cultures, locations, levels and tap styles to gather, connect, support and share together.
From the beginning, we've set out to create a space where we can all be ourselves, grow on our tap journey, and share it together.
Specifically, TAPTOPIA is built upon 3 core pillars:
1. community Platform
Each member will receive 24/7 access to the Taptopia community group platform; a clean, private & curated network where members can share, comment and interact together.
2. ongoing learning content
Membership includes access to ongoing tap classes each month (taught by Bill, Tiarna, or a carefully selected special guest) + access to all class replays.
3. community catchup calls & Other Events
Members are invited to join a monthly live Community Call with Bill, Tiarna and the team, where we dive into specific tap topics together, share updates, ask questions, talk tap dance and everything else.

Bill Simpson
Creator of Taptopia & Just TAP
I first discovered tap dance at age 16, I've been making noise with my feet ever since.
For more than 20 years, I've made a career as tap dance performer, choreographer and educator. I created Just TAP to help people across the world learn tap dance, and to date, more than 3500 students have enrolled in the course series.
I love photography, writing, coffee, going to the movies, and pretty much everything else! I have a beautiful dog; Ellie a golden labrador (named after my favorite tap dancer, Eleanor Powell).
I'm proud of what we're building with Taptopia, and can't imagine life without it.
Tiarna Leigh
Co-Founder of Taptopia & Community Manager
Hi! I'm Tiarna. I began tap dancing at age 2 (along with many other forms of dance), and basically haven’t stopped since.
I graduated from ED5 International with a Diploma in Musical Theatre (my favorite style of dance, alongside tap).
I’ve spent many years performing and teaching. I'm currently enjoying choreographing my own work, with Bob Fosse and Ann Reinking being my biggest creative influences.
Outside of dance my many loves include, yoga, dogs, coffee and being a life-long Taylor Swift fan (AKA, 'Swiftie').
Taptopia is a wonderful, fulfilling community - I'm always excited to see how it unfolds!

Gregory Hines (1946 - 2003) summed it up perfectly...
Because we do not judge each other, we love each other. If you have a pair of tap shoes, you're in. If you want it, we want you.
THIS is the spirit of Taptopia. If you want in, we want you.
The doors to Taptopia are open!
The doors to Taptopia are open!
Worry not, friend. The group isn’t about how far along your tap journey you are, just that you’re on one.Â
We welcome all adults, regardless of age. From time to time, we do come across mature, driven younger tap dancers who’d very much like to be involved. If this is you, reach out to us here and we’ll let you know if Taptopia is a good fit.
We like to keep things simple and straightforward, and provide clear instructions for how to get set up with everything, as well as all the ins-and-outs of using the group, accessing the live calls and classes. We also have members within the group who’ve volunteered to help should you ever need a hand or have a question. And of course, we’re only ever an email or message away.
It’s up to you! Each person’s journey with Taptopia is naturally very different. We encourage members to engage as much as they realistically can; our experience has shown that the more someone engages, the more they will get out of it.
Currently, our live community calls take place on the third Tuesday of each month (alternating between Zoom classes and community check-ins / discussion groups). Subject to change, but only if really really necessary.
For each call, class or event, we offer two different time options for students to join. These are adjusted across the year to account for timezone changes, but are usually:
Check your timezone with this nifty converter.
Timing doesn’t work? Don’t worry. Each Zoom call and class is recorded and made available in the Taptopia group platform.
Sometimes, we all need a little help on the journey. Members will have the option to receive personalized individual feedback (provided by Bill and/or Tiarna, either written or filmed) on videos that they choose to share. Completely optional, but recommended!
In each intake round, we allocated memberships to gift to the tap community, some of them gifted by the community members themselves! The decision to offer a scholarship is based upon merit, financial need, the exemplification of Taptopia spirit, and/or at the discretion of the management team. If you’re interested in applying for a scholarship, please mention this in your application.

We recognize the many nations and cultures that shape and contribute to
the art of Tap Dance, but acknowledge tap as an African-American
art-form at its roots, which directly influenced the dancers of the
‘golden era’ of Hollywood, in-turn popularizing Tap across the
world.
We also acknowledge the First Nations Peoples of Australia - the
traditional owners of the land on which we join you from - and pay
respects to their elders, past and present.
The next intake cut-off closes in:
We hope to welcome you inside.
